The Orlando Magic have now lost six games in a row and 17 of their last 19, but they have managed to keep the majority of those contests close. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case in their latest game, as they were defeated by the Brooklyn Nets 97-77 on Monday night at the Barclays Center.

"It's tough to continue to do the same task over and over again, and that's what we're asking of our guys. That's what we have to do in order for us to be good as a basketball team," Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said. "We have to box out every single time, not nine out of 10 times. For the most part we've done that. We will continue to work at it."

Brooklyn (27-18) was paced by Deron Williams, who finished 8 of 12 from the field and 4 of 7 from 3-point range, netting 20 points and dishing out nine assists. Brook Lopez scored 16 points, Joe Johnson had 13 and Keith Bogans registered 12.

The Magic (14-30) received 18 points and nine rebounds from Nikola Vucevic, who connected on 9 of 13 shots from the field, while Moe Harkless made 7 of 10, including 2 of 4 from downtown, on his way to a 16-point performance. Glen Davis recorded 15 points and Jameer Nelson finished with nine. Meanwhile, just one night after tallying a career-high eight 3-pointers and 31 points, J.J. Redick was just 2 of 13 from the floor and 1 of 8 for long range. He managed only five points, but did have six rebounds and a career-high 10 assists.

The Nets outshot Orlando 37 of 74 (50.0%) to 32 of 79 (40.5%) overall and 13 of 29 (44.8%) to 6 of 27 (22.2%) from behind the arc. They outrebounded the visitors 45-36 and were beaten 38-36 on points in the paint.

Brooklyn won the first quarter 30-20 and took the second quarter 26-20. After being outscored 23-14 in the third frame, the hosts lost 27-14 in the fourth.

"You can blame a lot of things on why the run ended, but we had guys out there fighting, playing together and trying to win," Nelson said of the rally the Magic made in the third quarter. "We made a good push but obviously it was not good enough."

Orlando is at New York on Wednesday at 7:30 pm on FS Florida.
