Every time it seems the Orlando Magic are about to get things going again, they come out with another less-than-stellar performance. That was the story once again with the Charlotte Bobcats in town, as they defeated the Magic 106-100 on Friday night at the Amway Center.
The Bobcats (10-29), who had lost 24 of their previous 26 games and five in a row, were led by 25 points and eight rebounds from Kemba Walker and 17 points from Gerald Henderson, who was 8 of 11 from the field. Hakim Warrick and Ramon Sessions added 15 points apiece, with Sessions also tallying seven assists. In addition, Brendan Haywood provided a solid performance off the bench, recording eight points and seven rebounds.
Orlando (14-25) received 23 points from Arron Afflalo, 22 points and seven assists from Jameer Nelson, 13 points from J.J. Redick, 11 points and nine rebounds from Vucevic and 10 points and six boards from Andrew Nicholson.
Both teams were 37 of 79 (46.8%) from the floor, while the Magic were 11 of 31 (35.5%) from 3-point range compared to 4 of 12 (33.3%) for Charlotte. The Bobcats held a 43-36 edge in rebounding and a 44-40 advantage on points in the paint.
At the end of the first quarter, the teams were tied at 28-all, but Charlotte surged ahead 57-45 at halftime and was up 76-71 after three periods.
"It was more about our effort," Magic center Nikola Vucevic said. "We didn't play hard enough tonight. They came out real aggressive. They really wanted to win this game."
Orlando hosts Dallas on Sunday at 6:00 pm on FS Florida.
