Just two days after ending their longest losing streak in almost 10 years, the Orlando Magic ran into the suddenly hot Washington Wizards, who have won three straight games. The hosts led the entire way en route to a 120-91 win on Monday night at the Verizon Center.
The Wizards (7-28) got 19 points and 11 rebounds from Emeka Okafor, 18 points and six assists from A.J. Price, 18 points from Kevin Seraphin, 17 points from Bradley Beal, 12 points and six assists from John Wall, and 10 points and seven rebounds from Jan Vesely.
Orlando (13-24) was led by Jameer Nelson's 19 points, 12 assists, and game-high three steals, while Nikola Vucevic finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Glen Davis was 6 of 8 from the field, notching 13 points in 18 minutes in his return from the separated right shoulder that forced him to miss the previous 11 games. In addition, J.J. Redick scored 12 points off the bench.
Washington made 56.1% (46 of 82) of its shots from the field and 63.6% (7 of 11) from long range compared to 42.5% (37 of 87) from the field for Orlando, which made 27.8% (5 of 18) of its shots from downtown. The Wizards were 21 of 25 (84.0%) from the free throw line, while the Magic finished 12 of 15 (80.0%) from the charity stripe.
The Wizards outscored Orlando 28-22 in the opening quarter, played the Magic to a 31-31 tie in the second period, and won the third and fourth frames 37-24 and 24-14, respectively.
"We talked about that before the game – just what Wall does, and how he creates tempo, and everyone else is able to feed off that. And I think at half it was 19-1 transition points. That's tough to overcome," Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said.
Orlando hosts Indiana on Wednesday at 7:00 pm on FS Florida.
