Second-year center Nikola Vucevic has really stepped up for the Orlando Magic, especially in the injured Glen Davis' stead. On Monday, he found himself in elite company, as he surpassed Shaquille O'Neal's 19-year-old franchise record of 28 rebounds by pulling down 29 boards in Orlando's 112-110 overtime loss to the Miami Heat.
The 7-foot, 240-pound Vucevic is averaging a double-double for the Magic, scoring 10.8 points per game to go with 10.5 rebounds per game. While he was disappointed with the loss, he was extremely delighted to eclipse Shaq's mark.
"Shaq was one of the best players who ever played, the most dominant big man to ever play the game," said Vucevic, who had 11 of his 29 rebounds on the offensive end. "So to break his record means a lot given how dominant he was."
