Orlando Magic Guard Jason Richardson Guard Surprisingly Resigns December 10th, 2011 at 10:56 PM

The NBA has been nothing but strange since it has resumed action from the dreaded NBA Lockout. Chris Paul was initially traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, but then was blocked by the NBA. Dwight Howard asked to be traded by our beloved Orlando Magic. But perhaps the strangest of news since the start of the NBA free agency period happened today. ESPN reports that Jason Richardson has resigned with the Orlando Magic.
Jason Richardson is staying with the Orlando Magic.
Richardson agreed to a four-year, $25 million deal to remain in Orlando, according to a report on Yahoo! Sports citing league sources.
Richardson averaged 13.9 points and four rebounds a game in 55 games with the Magic last season after coming over from Phoenix in a three-team trade last December.
This is a huge surprise Richardson was rumored the entire offseason to be signing with the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls had the best record in the regular season in the Eastern Conference, but were derailed because they lacked a second scorer behind phemon Derek Rose. Jason Richardson was the natural fit. Richardson must have really enjoyed his few months in Orlando to want to resign with the team amidst the unknown. Future Hall of Fame Center Dwight Howard looks poised to be traded to a big market contender while Richardson is once again stuck racking up mega numbers for a below average basketball team. I like the signing because I thought J Rich was a great player that Stan Van Gundy underused. I would look for the Magic to get Richardson more involved going forward.
